Message from the Executive Director

Welcome to SGS’s new website! SGS Southern Gonounnayan Samity is a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) started in 1983 in Bangladesh. Their accomplishments focus on results in governance, poverty reduction, social rights and justice, education for all members of the society, health and family welfare, environment, energy and climate change, and disaster management. SGS works with GoB ministries and agencies plus bilateral and multinational donor partners to achieve progress in economic and social development in Southern Bangladesh.SGS works on building the capacity of institutions and elected bodies as well as the community of people living in poverty, people with disabilities, women and children, and the elderly. SGS is involved in socio-economic issues of human rights, social justice, voter education, awareness of legal issues, adaption and mitigation measures due to climate change, and establishing community change agents and local volunteers. SGS work has covered 44 Upazila of 14 districts but it can implement projects anywhere in Bangladesh. SGS has been working to enhance welfare of poor of the poorest in our catchment areas. For the past 33 years, our highly-specialized teams of community workers have worked with disadvantage population, particularly with children, mothers and their families with one goal in mind – ensuring wellbeing and to give opportunity to improve their livelihoods. I am proud of our long history of responding to the ever changing needs of local families and communities. Over the years we have modified and expanded our programs, even created new sustainable programs to ensure that local community continue to have access to the services they need. We will continue to update our strategic plans, incorporating new ideas and innovative services and programs, paving the way to assure the continued and strong presence of SGS to accelerate development in our community. SGS Governance

A Group Of 30 Volunteer Men And Women Are The General Member And Is The Highest Body Of The Organization. They Are All From Different Strata Of Life. Every After 2 Years They Elect 7 Members Governing Body From Among Themselves And They Sets The Broad Policy For The Organization. Member Secretary Of The Executive Committee Is Empowered By The Constitution To Function As Executive Director And He Is Responsible For Overall Operations And Management Of All The Projects And The Program Of The Organization. Each Project Is Headed By A Director Who Is Responsible For Day To Day Operation Of The Project.
