Detailed Narrative description of Project

The project was focused on family planning by adopting doorstep approach to make married couple aware about family control issues. SGS was committed to implement the project to contribute on the government targets of achieving birth rate all over the country. Under the project, it was also provided various types of contraceptive materials with free of costs to the target beneficiaries. The project also promoted different types of birth control methods among them. It was funded by The Asia Foundation of USAID. It was implemented among the entire population in Gopalganj Sadar and Tungipara Upazilas in Gopalganj and Chitolmary and Mollahhat Upazilas under Bagerhat Districts.

Detailed Narrative description of Project

SGS mainly focused on wide-range essential service package including support for reproductive health (both clinical and non-clinical), maternal & child health, RTI/STD, health education on nutrition & vitamin ‘A’ supplementary nutritious food supply to newly born babies and mothers, Moreover, the project was focused on newborn child issues. The project also addressed indigenous people for receiving essential health services. The project was funded by ODA/BPHC and DFID. The implementing areas were Gopalgonj sadar and Tungipara upazilla of Gopalgonj District. The success of the project encouraged the funding organizations for replicating the same activities at Gopalganj Sadar upazila of Gopalganj district under the extension of its activities.

Detailed Narrative description of Project

SGS has been working on NSDP project by covering 238,057 populations of 29 unions from Muksudpur, Kashiani, Tungipara in Gopanganj district and Chitalmari Upazila of Bagerhat district. The project is funded by The Pathfinder International and Chemonics International. This project was focused on reducing maternal & child morbidity and mortality, and reducing fertility rate; improve overall nutrition status of the people and life expectancy and ensure other essential health services. The name of the project is restructured as NGO Health Service Delivery Project (NHSDP) since January 2013. Previously the project was implemented in 4 Upazilas, which is presently extended in 14 Upazilas. There is an EMOC Clinic where having facilities of 6 beds and 3 qualified doctors and 7 nurses.

 

Detailed Description of Actual Services by SGS

Project staff of NSDP mainly provide  Behavior Change Communication  ( BCC )  and health service through its static and satellite Clinics. The project has enhanced knowledge level of the family members about bath spacing and supported female to raise their voice for establishing rights to reproductive health and to take decisions by their own about the family size, ways and means of awareness campaigning, advocacy, sensitizing community people by organizing courtyard meeting, rally, community counseling etc. People have been receiving such type of services from established clinics, namely Smiling Sun Clinics.

The project play a vital role to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and provide syndrome basis treatment in the case of STD/RTI. Service Providers raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and STD/RTI through BCC meeting with Student of School and college, Brick field worker, Newlywed Couple and Adolescent group. The project as well as Organization participate in world AIDS day rally and  seminar, A team of skill Paramedic, Service Provider and Service promoter has been working to aware people about HIV/AIDS and STD/RTI since 1997 and  supplying free condom.

Detailed Narrative description of Project

With aim to reduce poverty of poor and marginal farmers SGS undertakes a new initiatives namely “ Good Governance for Agriculture Development Project” from March, 2006. The project has been targeting 5600 house holds. Objective of the project is to organize poor and marginal farmers and build their capacity, To aware them about their rights and to make Agriculture Department more responsive. The name of the project is restructured as People Oriented Service Improvement ( POrSI). Under its new name Other public Institutions like Health, Primary School and Local Government Institution ( Union Parisad ) are included  with Agriculture Department to make them more responsive . SGS covers 30 Union under this initiative.

 

Detailed Description of Actual Services by SGS

At the beginning of the project a Baseline survey was conducted by the SGS staff of the project to identify poor and marginal farmers and their present economical status. After identification 224 groups were formed of the poor and marginal farmers. Each group named “Farmers Club” contains 25 members. Project Staff organize monthly meeting with the farmers club to aware them about their rights and build their capacity through enhancing knowledge level. Agriculture and other relevant issues are discussed by the staff in these meeting. SGS also organize various training like Gender issue, RTI, Climate change etc. To make  farmers club more strengthen Union and Upazila farmers club were formed and registered from Cooperative Society and Social welfare department. SGS staff organize training and work shop for School Management Committee , Family Welfare Center ( FWC) and Community Clinic Service provider, Community Clinic Management Committee, Elected body of Union Parisad about their roles and responsibilities. Public Hearing, Community Score Card for School, Safety net and Agriculture service are also organized to make Health, Primary School, Local Government Institution ( Union Parisad ) and  Agriculture Department  more responsive. The project also organized Agriculture Information fair, Enrollment Rally  to increase  School going children, Upazila and District level Advocacy Program about service of public Institution.

The objective of the project was to ensure that mothers, neonates, and young children are healthy and well nourished particularly among poor people. The project was provided essential services including safe birth of child, bathing of children, breast feeding of mother, ANC, PNC and ENC; ensuring birth services through trained providers and ensuring postnatal and neonatal care, emergency birth planning, etc. The project was funded by AusAid under the collaboration with Unicef. It was implemented in Kashiani Upazila in Gopalganj district with coverage of 266,000 populations.

Detailed Narrative description of Project

It was a GoB-ADB project namely ‘Urban Primary Health Care Project-KCC-2’ at Khulna City Corporation from July 2006 to December 2011. The focused areas of the project were Health, Family Planning, Nutrition and HIV/AIDS. The project aims to establish rights of poor and vulnerable female as well as children through clinical service and health educate. The total beneficiaries targeted around 350,000 populations in Khulna city. The project has contributed to make people well aware on reproductive health through conducting awareness session, training and organizing social mobilization activities. The target beneficiaries are mainly female and adolescent girls. The project also provides medical support to all means male, female, adolescent and children. This was implementing jointly with the Khulna City Corporation. Local elected bodies were involved with the planning and implementation process and cooperating project staffs for achieving its goal and objectives. Total 18 qualified Doctors with 42 Paramedics were provided all kind of clinical, pathological and operational services to the people including safe delivery of pregnant mothers. Marginalized and hard core poor people received free services under the project, which was 30% of the entire populations.

Detailed Narrative description of Project

The project aimed to provide adequate services for enhancing nutrition status of the people. It was a government initiated project in collaboration with the World Bank. There were two other components on the project i.e. poultry for nutrition and nutrition gardening. SGS has implemented the project in 7 Upazilas at Kashiani and Kotalopara in Gopalganj district and Alfadanga, Boalmari, Nagorkanda, Salta and Chorvadrasion Upazila under Faridpur district. Around 1.4 million people were received nutrition services under the project. It was a large project where around 1179 women worked under as CNO & CNP. The government administrative institutions and elected bodies of total union were also involved and provided active participation on the project, which was considered as an added strength for SGS on successful implementation of the project.

From its inception SGS has proved itself as a dependable friend of people especially during disaster and post disaster support activities  in south delta. In 1980. 88 and 98 the region suffered a lot for flood and cyclone and damaged huge shelter, crops field and sufferings of people had no limit. During those disaster SGS with the financial support of  Salvation Army took massive relief work which included Housing and Agriculture Rehabilitation.

No doubt, education is the most essential basics for ones development. But once it was a million dolor question, how girls enrollment in Bangladesh can be increased? SGS then started a project named “ Girl’s Student Stipend Project in 1985 with the support of  The Asia Foundation. Goal of the project was to increase enrollment of girls in secondary school and reduce early marries and empower women. This was one of the successful project implemented by SGS and standing on the success of SGS Government of Bangladesh has taken the responsibility to implement nationwide.

SGS implemented the program titled as “Adolescent Family-Life Education” project in collaboration with Centre for Development Services (CDS) from 1992 to 1996. SGS initiated to educate the adolescent girls to learn about menstrual hygiene, reproductive health and their cycle. The project also provided efforts to aware other family members regarding those issues to support the adolescents through educating about their life.
